About the treatment

Due to wear and tear, accidents, or tooth decay, a tooth or molar may need to be replaced with a dental crown. A crown can be placed on your natural tooth root or on a dental implant. An implant essentially replaces the natural tooth root. The part that is ultimately visible in the mouth is the crown attached to the implant.

The crown is fully custom-made and carefully designed to match the height, shape, and colour of your natural teeth. This ensures that it blends in seamlessly with your existing teeth and molars. An implant-supported crown is one of the most natural-looking and functional solutions for replacing a missing tooth or molar. In terms of both function and aesthetics, it can closely resemble a natural tooth.

The crown is attached to the implant either by means of an abutment, which is screwed onto the implant, or directly onto the implant with a screw. The method used depends on the position of the implant. Whenever possible, direct screw retention is preferred.

The lower part of the implant crown fits precisely into the specially designed connection of the implant. This connection is shaped so that the crown can only be positioned in one way, ensuring an accurate and stable fit. A screw is then inserted through the crown and secured into the internal thread of the implant, firmly holding the restoration in place.

The screw access hole on the top of the crown is subsequently sealed with composite, a tooth-coloured filling material. This provides a discreet and natural-looking finish.

Care for your crown in the same way as your natural teeth. Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and clean between the teeth regularly using interdental brushes or dental sticks. Pay particular attention to the area where the crown meets the gum line to help keep the surrounding gums healthy.

The treatment process usually takes between 3 and 6 months, depending on how well the area heals and the quality of the jawbone.
