A dental bridge can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and restore both function and appearance.
General information
A dental bridge is supported by two or more abutment teeth. These are the prepared teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth or teeth. The bridge consists of crowns that fit over the abutment teeth and one or more artificial teeth, known as pontics, which replace the missing teeth.
The treatment for a dental bridge is carried out in stages and usually requires two visits to your dentist. The bridge is not made directly in your mouth but is custom-made in our dental laboratory, TANDZORGLAB.
A dental technician from TANDZORGLAB will take clinical photographs to record the position and shade of the missing tooth or teeth. Your dentist will also take an impression using an impression tray and a soft, rubber-like material. This impression is used to create a plaster model on which your dental bridge is made.
Your dentist will also record your bite to determine how the teeth in your upper and lower jaws come together. This is known as a bite registration.
As the dental bridge cannot be completed on the same day, your dentist will fit a temporary restoration to protect the prepared teeth and keep you comfortable while the final bridge is being made. Avoid biting on hard or sticky foods with the temporary restoration, as it is not designed to withstand heavy forces. Please contact us if it becomes loose or breaks.
Once your dental bridge is ready, your dentist will carefully check its fit, shape and appearance. Dental cement is then applied to the inside of the bridge before it is positioned and securely cemented onto the prepared teeth.
Fees
The cost of a dental bridge varies depending on your individual dental needs. Your dentist will provide you with a personalised cost estimate based on your individual dental situation and treatment needs.
Treatment fees must be paid at the reception desk immediately after your appointment, preferably by debit card or, if necessary, in cash. This overview is intended as a general indication only. As every patient requires an individual treatment plan, the final costs may vary from person to person.
Our fees are based on the Performance and Tariff Decision for Dental Care issued by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit, NZa), valid from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. For more information about dental costs and reimbursements, please visit allesoverhetgebit.nl.
