During a regular dental check-up, your dentist will check your teeth, gums and the soft tissues in your mouth to make sure everything is healthy.
General information
During your check-up, the dentist will carefully examine your mouth and look for any changes that may indicate dental problems. This includes checking for discolouration or other signs of tooth decay, as well as assessing whether decay may have developed underneath an existing filling. If necessary, X-rays may be taken to assess areas that cannot be seen during a visual examination.
You may wonder how much radiation is involved in dental X-rays. The amount is very low. For example, the radiation exposure from two small bitewing X-rays is comparable to the natural background radiation you would receive during approximately two weeks spent at high altitude in the mountains.
Your dentist will also check the condition and fit of any existing fillings, crowns and bridges, assess the health of your gums and measure the spaces between your teeth and gums where necessary. Your individual risk of developing oral health problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease, will also be assessed.
If further care or treatment is needed, we will discuss this with you and prepare a personalised treatment plan. We will also advise you on when to return for your next check-up. Some patients benefit from a check-up every six months, while for others, once a year may be sufficient. Your dentist will recommend the most appropriate recall interval based on your individual oral health needs.
Fees
Treatment fees must be paid at the reception desk immediately after your appointment, preferably by debit card or, if necessary, in cash. This overview is intended as a general indication only. As every patient requires an individual treatment plan, the final costs may vary from person to person.
Our fees are based on the Performance and Tariff Decision for Dental Care issued by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit, NZa), valid from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. For more information about dental costs and reimbursements, please visit allesoverhetgebit.nl.

FAQ
Can’t find the answer to your question? Please feel free to contact us.
No. Routine dental check-ups are not legally required, and it is your own choice whether you attend. However, regular check-ups are strongly recommended to help maintain good oral health.
Please also be aware that many supplementary dental insurance policies require regular dental check-ups in order to remain eligible for reimbursement for certain treatments. We recommend checking the terms of your own insurance policy.
