General information

About the treatment

Once your braces are removed, your teeth will be in their newly corrected position. In the period immediately after orthodontic treatment, however, teeth still have a tendency to move back towards their original position. This is known as relapse. The bone and surrounding tissues need time to adapt and stabilise around the teeth in their new position.

To help maintain the result of your orthodontic treatment, you may be provided with a clear removable retainer, also known as a night retainer. Wearing the retainer as instructed helps keep your teeth in their corrected position while the surrounding tissues stabilise.

A clear removable retainer is made from transparent thermoplastic material and fits closely over the teeth. An impression or digital scan of your teeth is taken, after which TANDZORGLAB produces the retainer to fit your teeth precisely.

By wearing your retainer according to the instructions provided, you can help maintain the alignment achieved with orthodontic treatment over the long term.

Aligners are used to gradually move your teeth into a better position and improve their alignment, function and appearance.

Retainers are worn after orthodontic treatment to keep your teeth in their new position and help prevent them from shifting back over time.

Rinse your clear retainer with cold water before putting it in and again after taking it out. Avoid hot water, as this can cause the retainer to lose its shape.

Once a week, clean the retainer gently with a soft toothbrush and a small amount of mild dish soap. Do not use toothpaste, as it can scratch the surface of the retainer.
