About the treatment

TANDZORGLAB works closely with you to create a high-quality denture that is tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

During your first consultation, you can discuss your wishes with Jane. She will explain the available options and prepare a personalised cost estimate. Once you are happy with the proposed treatment and costs, the next appointment can be scheduled.

At this appointment, impressions will be taken of your upper or lower jaw if you only require a denture for one jaw, or of both jaws if you require dentures for both the upper and lower jaw.

The impressions are used to create plaster models of your jaws. A custom tray is then made to accurately determine the shape and borders of the denture, helping to ensure a comfortable and secure fit.

At your next appointment, your bite will be carefully recorded. This is important to ensure that your jaws come together correctly and that your jaw joints can function comfortably. At this stage, you will also choose the colour, shape and position of your new teeth together with Jane. Your final denture can then be prepared.

At the following appointment, you will try in a wax version of the denture. Because the teeth are still set in wax at this stage, adjustments can still be made to their position, shape or colour if necessary. Your bite will also be checked again.

At the final appointment, your finished denture will be fitted. The fit and comfort will be checked carefully, and any areas causing pressure or discomfort can be adjusted.

Your denture may need to be replaced if you notice any of the following:

  • Loose fit: You need to use increasing amounts of denture adhesive, or your denture moves or clicks when you speak.
  • Pain or irritation: You develop sore spots, pressure areas or inflammation of the gums.
  • Wear: The denture teeth are visibly worn down, making chewing less effective.
  • Cracks or fractures: Your denture develops cracks or breaks repeatedly.
Yes. It usually takes around one to two months to get used to a new denture. Your mouth and jaw muscles need time to adjust to its new shape and thickness. At first, you may produce more saliva than usual, and speaking or eating certain foods, particularly hard or sticky foods, may feel more difficult.

Your denture should be cleaned just as carefully as your natural teeth. If it is not cleaned regularly, plaque and bacteria can build up and may cause irritation or inflammation of the gums.

Clean your denture daily with a denture brush, water and a mild soap. Do not use toothpaste on the denture, as it can be abrasive and may damage the surface. If preferred, you can also use a cleaning product specifically designed for dentures.

To keep your gums healthy, gently brush them with a soft toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste.

In the Netherlands, basic health insurance generally covers a new full denture once every five years. Please note that a statutory personal contribution usually applies and is typically 25% of the total cost. We recommend checking with your own health insurance provider for details of your individual coverage.
