You may need a dental filling if you have tooth decay or if part of a tooth has chipped or broken off.
General information
A dental filling restores the shape and function of the tooth, helping you to chew comfortably and reducing the risk of further damage, sensitivity or pain.
If necessary, local anaesthetic will be used before treatment. Your dentist will then remove the tooth decay or the existing filling. At TANDZORG.NL, fillings are generally placed using a rubber dam. This is a small sheet of rubber that isolates the tooth and keeps it clean and dry during treatment. It also helps prevent water and dental materials from entering the mouth or throat.
Once the tooth is clean and dry, the surface is carefully prepared so that the filling can bond securely to the tooth. A bonding agent is then applied, followed by the composite filling material in several layers. Each layer is hardened using a special blue curing light. Finally, the filling is shaped and polished to ensure a comfortable bite and a natural finish.
At TANDZORG.NL, we generally use tooth-coloured composite fillings to treat tooth decay and repair or replace existing fillings. Composite is available in a wide range of shades, allowing the filling to be closely matched to the natural colour of your tooth.
One of the advantages of a composite filling compared with an amalgam filling, the traditional silver-coloured type, is that it can often be placed while preserving more of the healthy tooth structure. The composite is bonded directly to the tooth and can provide a strong, natural-looking result. A well-made composite filling can blend in almost seamlessly with your natural teeth.
After treatment, the tooth may feel slightly sensitive for a while. This usually improves within a few weeks. Occasionally, a filling may feel slightly too high when you bite; your dentist can easily adjust this. If the sensitivity does not improve or becomes worse, please contact us.
Fees
Different treatment codes may apply when placing or repairing a dental filling, depending on the number of tooth surfaces involved and whether a rubber dam and local anaesthetic are required.
Treatment fees must be paid at the reception desk immediately after your appointment, preferably by debit card or, if necessary, in cash. This overview is intended as a general indication only. As every patient requires an individual treatment plan, the final costs may vary from person to person.
Our fees are based on the Performance and Tariff Decision for Dental Care issued by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit, NZa), valid from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. For more information about dental costs and reimbursements, please visit allesoverhetgebit.nl.

FAQ
Can’t find the answer to your question? Please feel free to contact us.
You can usually eat and drink straight away after having a filling. If you have had a local anaesthetic, we recommend waiting until the numbness has completely worn off before eating or drinking. This usually takes around 1 to 2 hours.
A dental filling may need to be replaced if it becomes worn, damaged or loose, or if tooth decay develops underneath it.
